The Importance of a Professional Headshot

"Everyone is a photographer these days."

Professional photographers heartily disagree with this notion. The Apple X and the Samsung 9 each have improved cameras that purport to high megapixels, digital zoom, aperture settings at f/2.8, image stabilization, background blur, and other enticing features. But, professional photographers know the difference between images shot with a phone and those captured with high end digital cameras with expensive, high tech glass (the lens). Moreover, professional photographers have the education, technical expertise, editing software, knowledge of lighting and posing options that will produce images that CEO's and business owners seek for their marketing campaigns.

I recently viewed photographer Jay P. Morgan of The Slanted Lens video about corporate head shots. He was on site at a corporate office in California where he had only 15 minutes with busy professionals to take their images. He knew beforehand how to capture the environmental shot in addition to images with light vs. dark backgrounds. He is a professional working with professionals. He is knowledgeable about the different image requirements for print resolution, magazine resolution, and computer resolution. Corporate executives hire for the best outcomes, because their professional images matter.

My work with the Atlanta Photographer's Guild has provided me with numerous opportunities to use my camera and expertise to provide images to young models which they use to build their professional modeling portfolios. Both the corporate executive and the up-and-coming models understand and value a professional photographer's work in capturing images that showcase them in the highest professional manner.

Meet newly published author Anne Armistead, author of Dangerous Conjurings. Anne is a talented romance writer who lives in Atlanta. She has been writing for most of her adult life and has recently published her first novel. For Anne, this is a milestone in her life. Anne commissioned me for a professional photo shoot last month. She knows the importance of marketing herself with professional head shots. We met on the day of the photo shoot fully prepared - she with several wardrobe changes and me with my mobile studio.
